Trans-Atlantic Renal Council, (TARC) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization incorporated in 1978. It was established in response to federal regulations regarding the formation of ESRD network organizations. Originally only New Jersey was included in the network area but with reorganization in 1989 federal officials expanded the area to include Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

TARC has had federal contracts governing operation of the New Jersey Renal Network Council and, subsequently, the Trans-Atlantic Renal Council (TARC) since the inception of the federal program. TARC was awarded several grants from the NJ State Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDOHSS) to conduct educational programs for ESRD professionals as well as two 36 hour credit courses for nephrology nurses preceding the ANNA certification exam
